Creating a full accessible and inclusive playground for Somerset Elementary School

Somerset PTA is seeking funding to build a fully accessible and inclusive playground at our school. 

The current playground is 20 years old and no longer serves the needs of our diverse student body. We want this new accessible and inclusive playground at a Minnesota public school to be a symbol of inclusivity for our community and the state. 

The goals of this project include: 

• Developing a play space for ALL children at the school and the neighborhood that encourages active, outdoor, and imaginative play. 

• Developing a destination school within the district for special needs children and families. One that will be an example for other schools to prioritize the importance of accessible and inclusive play in education. 

• Deepening community engagement and investment in local accessible ad inclusive public schools. . 

• Creating a space for the students and families to support these marginalized children and recognize ALL children matter. 

We've partnered with a design firm that specializes in a unique process that unifies and empowers communities by bringing people together to design, organize, and construct oneof-a-kind accessible and inclusive playgrounds. 

WE NEED YOUR HELP! 

The creation of this playground will be 100% funded via private grants, private donations, and corporate sponsorships. Preparing the grounds will rely 100% on volunteers and in kind services donated by companies. Scheduled to be built in May 2025 our budget is $300,000 with $80,000 coming from in kind donations for construction and labor. 

Community-built projects inspire participants with a sense of ownership, so much so that we hope the project become a focus of community life. Families who help build will return for picnics and bring out-of-town guests to share what the school community accomplished together. 

We've prepared a complete sponsorship package that includes a list of suggested donation amounts and various ways in which we can provide recognition. However, you are encouraged to tailor donation amounts and recognition levels to your own needs. Be creative: Tell us how we can best fulfill your needs!
